On the FEH, and unlike the non-hybrid Escape, the interior temperature sensor is a combined temperature and humidity sensor. Given the complexity of the FEH's systems it wouldn't surprise me if it made extensive use of an outside temperature reading. The ambient temperature sensor is located just inside the lower front grille.
